Kaplan Marino’s Richard Kaplan and Nina Marino Named Top Litigators in Los Angeles

July 21, 2022

LOS ANGELES – July 21, 2022 – White collar criminal defense law firm Kaplan Marino announced today that Partners Richard Kaplan and Nina Marino have been recognized for their accomplishments as leading attorneys within the Los Angeles business community and named to the Los Angeles Business Journal’s annual list “2022 Leaders of Influence: Litigators & Trial Lawyers.”  The publication notes that litigators are a “special breed of attorney” because they need to “transcend expert comprehension of the legal system.”

Recently named “Legal Visionaries” by the Los Angeles Times, Kaplan and Marino founded the firm in 1988 with the goal of transforming white-collar defense law.

Kaplan manages serious criminal charges that threaten the livelihood and reputations of white-collar clients, including high net worth individuals, entrepreneurs, entertainers, corporations, and their officers and executives. The publication notes that “during negotiations with authorities, Kaplan’s creative and novel strategies have led to numerous acquittals, no-charges-filed, probation, and record expungement outcomes for clients.” His experience includes “a range of allegations: fraud, narcotics, DUI, vehicular manslaughter, and domestic violence, among others.” Several recent representations have involved #MeToo allegations, building code violations, and overcharging claims issued by weights and measures agencies.

Marino’s complex litigation and white-collar crime practice is national and international. She negotiates with the U.S. Department of Justice, state attorneys general, District Attorneys, and Interpol in her defense of individuals alleged to be involved with Medicare fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practice Act violations and tax, cyber and other crimes. “Quite simply, Marino likes to save people. Right from the start, clients understand that she takes their cases as personally as they do,” states the feature. “Marino’s unconventional combination of caring, integrity and formidable lawyering has earned her a national reputation and recognition. She discovers the shades of gray behind prosecutors’ black-and-white arguments to shine new light on her clients’ circumstances. Her team-driven, meticulously prepared strategies have repeatedly helped clients reach their objectives – from staying out of prison to defending allegations all the way to trial” closes the feature.
