Collin Cate is a post-bar law clerk at Kaplan Marino, where he supports the firm’s white collar criminal defense practice with legal research, drafting briefs and motions, and analyzing discovery.

Collin graduated summa cum laude from Loyola Marymount University in 2022 with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Sociology. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, in 2025, where he served as Senior Note and Comment Editor for the International and Comparative Law Review. While in law school, Collin was a member of the Juvenile Innocence and Fair Sentencing Clinic (JIFS), where he worked on behalf of individuals sentenced to life as juveniles under outdated California sentencing laws, advocating for sentence reductions and fairer outcomes.

Collin also clerked for the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office, where he gained valuable experience in criminal defense practice, including case investigation, motion writing, and courtroom advocacy.

He sat for the California Bar Examination in July 2025 and is currently awaiting results. Collin brings a strong academic background and hands-on defense experience to his work at the firm, where he is dedicated to providing thoughtful and thorough support for clients facing complex white collar matters.
