Richard Kaplan Named Top White Collar Attorney of 2024

At the beginning of his 37 years in practice, Richard D. Kaplan said his dedication to helping people during their most challenging times initially drew him to criminal law. 

“As my practice developed into the white-collar world, I became attracted to learning about new businesses and the psychology of the accused,” he said. “The more complex the case the more creative the solution. Every case gives me an opportunity to think outside of the box.” Kaplan said over his career , his influential mentor is his wife and partner, Nina Marino. 

“Her work ethic is not replicated by anyone, and she challenges me to be better every day,” he said. “She has taught me about the theater of the courtroom and helped me find my voice. I rarely make an important decision about a case without her input." 

In one of his recent high profile cases, Kaplan successfully represented a client accused of receiving $775,000 in illegal kickbacks as part of a larger health care fraud case. 

“There were numerous defendants which allowed me to work with a team of brilliantly talented attorneys,” he said. “Approaching the complex issues as a team was a great eperience. After more than five years of litigation, the case was dismissed.”
